The Winnipeg Mint is our high-tech, high-volume manufacturing facility. All of Canada's circulation coinage is produced here - literally billions of coins each year. Established in 1976, the Winnipeg plant occupies a 14,864 square-metre state-of-the-art facility. We encourage you to visit this techno-wonder of the minting world! An ongoing capital investment program keeps our Winnipeg plant on the leading edge of technology. In 1996, two new high-speed presses were added to meet the demand for 300 million two-dollar coins - produced in the record time of just nine months. The coins, plated blanks, tokens and trade dollars minted here are quality-checked using mostly automated systems due to the sheer volume of production.
