The Manitoba Planetarium was built in 1961 to celebrate both Canada's (1967) and Manitoba's (1970) centennials. The construction was made possible through the generosity of the Saiyde and Samuel Bronfman Foundation.
The Manitoba Planetarium displays the stars using a Zeiss Model Vs Star Projector whick cost $125,000 Cdn in 1967 and contains 154 projectors working together to create an amazingly realistic night sky. The projector can display upto 9,000 stars, the Milky Way, the sun, moon and planets. In addition to the Zeiss projector, there are more than 200 auxiliary projectors adding to the display with computer graphics and images from the Hubble Space Telescope.
