Doug Henning is credited with reviving the magic show as a form of mass entertainment in North America thanks to his show on Broadway called The Magic Show, which opened in 1974 and ran for five years.
Henning changed the image of the stereotypical magician who wore tuxedos, top hats, had thin moustaches, goatees, and short hair by opting instead for long hair, a bushy moustache, and bright multicoloured casual clothes, giving him a distinctively flamboyant image.
